2011 World Championship

Church's, California

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to formally invite everyone to the 2011 ISA Tandem World Championships, which will be held at Churches break(San Diego, California) this January 7 – 9th. (Please feel free to pass this invite along to other tandem surfers you know as I am not sure that I have everyone’s email address.)

It promises to be a wonderful event at a world class surf spot (just south of Tressles). It is usally sunny and crisp, with glassy conditions. But bring a full suit! Water temperature usually falls between 55-60 degrees.

We are working really hard to raise the funds to make this as high a star event as possible (minimum 3 star). I will keep you posted of the developments as they arise. But more than the purse, this contest will ensure that you are ranked for the 2011 season as a professional tandem team! We are also changing our award format and will be awarding prize $$ and trophies to the top 6 finalists. Additionally, we will have special trophies for other performance categories.

The following is very important information that you need to know to enter this event:

1) Entry is open to any competitors in good standing with ITSA who meets the weight requirements.

2) The entry fee is $210 (if paid via PayPal to tandem.surfer@yahoo.com) or $200 if paid to TWO in cash or check (send to 33271 Marina Vista Dr., Dana Point, 92629).

3) The first 20 teams that pay the entry fee will be seeded for the event. Any entries beyond that will be placed on stand-by status. There is a small chance that the contest can be expanded to accommodate more than 20 teams, but it is not guaranteed, so get your entries in ASAP!

4) All teams must qualify for the updated weigh-in requirements: all teams will be given 1 chance to weigh in. All girls must wear bathing suits and all guys must wear board shorts. No wetsuits or additional clothing allowed. If a team does not meet the weight requirements, they may not compete and will forfeit their seeding to the first alternate. If their are no alternates, the team will not receive a refund of their entry fees.

5) The first round of heats will be held on Friday, January 7th at Church. All competitors must plan to arrive by 8:00 am unless notified otherwise by the contest director. The contest will conclude on Sunday, January 9th with the awards ceremoney to follow. Additional parties and events will be scheduled and contestants are requested to attend if at all possible to show support for our sponsors.

If you need help or information finding accomodations or transportation, please email me and we will do our best to help you out. We are looking into finding a local hotel who will give us a good group rate, so please let me know if you would be interested.

I hope you are looking forward to this amazing event as much as we California teams are. We look forward to hosting this prestigious event and even more, to seeing all our tandem friends from around the world!

Please email me with any questions or concerns and I look forward to seeing you all here!
-Kristen
