Welcome competitors, tandem followers, sponsors, ISA and family and friends to beautiful, sunny (at the moment) Southern California for the 2011 ISA Tandem World Championships. We are looking forward to nice weather and a good NW swell at Churches break (Tressels) this coming weekend, January 7th- 9th. We are so honored to host the world tandem surfing championships at this world-class break, made possible thanks to the Doheny Longboard Surfing Association (DLSA), the Grandaddy Dudley foundation, and RWorld Surfing, without whose generous sponsorship this event would not be possible.

If you are planning to attend, either as a fan or a competitor, please note the following:

Parking: Parking is available for $15/day at the tressels special events lot (old PCH). Take the Basilone exit off the 5 freeway and then your first right toward the small guard tower. If you have a California State Park pass, you can park at the San Onofre surfing beach for free, and then walk to Churches (apx. 1/4 mile walk).

Event Schedule: This event is held in conjunction with the DLSA annual “Gathering of the Tribes” (GOTT) California Coalition contest. They will be erecting two sites: one south of the river mouth and the other north. The majority of the tandem events will be taking place at the North break. Besides Tandem, DLSA will be having longboard, shortboard, and SUP divisions that will go all day both Saturday and Sunday and both sites. Refer to the DLSA web site for specific heat times (www.dohosurf.org).

NOTE: The following are the heat times for the tandem events. Note that heats are scheduled to change at the last moment and all times are approximate. We will do our best to update everyone if schedule changes occur, but it is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure they are present well in advance to check in for their heat.  

No pause between heats (subsequent heat paddles out at the five minute mark for the current heat and the end horn signals the beginning of the next heat).

Friday: All tandem events are at the North site on Friday.

• 8:30 Volunteers meet at Doheny (DLSA shed) to load trucks.
• 10:00 Weigh-in at Huntingon’s motorhome. 
• 11 – 3:00 Quarter round heats from 11- 3:00.
• 5:00 VIP Cocktail party at Stella Gyorkos’ home; announce results and heats for Saturday, distribute goodie bags, award sponsor trophy . 
• 8-11: Iron Butterfly concert ($7) at San Clemente Inn (Adelle’s)

Saturday: All tandem events are at the North site on Saturday.

• 7:00 – 9:00 – Breakfast on the beach for competitors only (sponsored by DLSA)
• 9:45 – 10: 15 – Division A, Semi 1
• 10:15 – 10:45 – Division A, Semi 2
• 10:45 – 11:00 – Division B, Semi 1
• 11:00 – 11:15 – Division B, Semi 2
• 12:00 – Lunch on the beach for competitors only  (sponsored by DLSA)
• 4:00 -7:00 – BBQ at McEvilly’s house in Carlsbad (BYOB and potluck); final heats announced

Sunday:

• 7:00 – 9:00 – Breakfast on the beach for competitors only (sponsored by DLSA)
• 9:15 – 9:45 – Division B Finals (North site)
• 12:00 – Lunch on the beach for competitors only  (sponsored by DLSA)
• 1:20 – 1:50 – Tandem World Championship finals (South site)
• 4:00 – Award Ceremony on the Beach
• After party TBD
